You are an efficient, engaging, and hard-working educator. The work that you are doing for your students is appreciated. Thank you for your dedication and the time you put in to ensure your students succeed.

Today’s podcast aims to provide you with lesson ideas for September. This will help your planning and make things easier when you start brainstorming what to do for the upcoming month.

The first lesson idea for September is Labor Day. Labor Day is not only celebrated in the United States but all around the world. You can start the lesson with a close read about what Labor Day is and how people celebrate Labor Day.

To start the lesson provide the students with some background knowledge about this topic since some might not be aware of Labor Day. One of my go-to ways of building background knowledge is through a read-aloud. Get Epic has several free picture books that you can read to your class about Labor Day.

During September, people around the world celebrate Video Game Day. This is the perfect opportunity to have a lesson about video games. Since most students love video games, they will connect with the lesson. planner the students can plan out their video game. For example, the characters in the story can be the players. The video game world can have different settings in the story. The conflict the characters face in the book can be the game conflict. Students can sketch this out or simply plan it out on paper.

September brings my favorite season which is Fall. The first day of Fall is around September 22nd and the perfect opportunity to have a craft part of the lesson. I suggest starting the lesson by doing a gallery walk of fall photos and activities. To offer some additional support for language learners, provide sentence frames to the students. Students can then do a close-read lesson around the fall activities.

Another activity that students enjoy is All About My Leaf. The students go outside and pick different types of leaves. Students then complete a form where they use crayons to shade the leaf and they also describe the leaf.

Did you know that National Pirate Day is in September? Yes! Most students I have taught are intrigued with pirates so this is the perfect opportunity to do a lesson about the lesson. An idea for a lesson is to do a treasure hunt in the classroom. Each of the obstacles can be related to the four domains of language.

For example, the students must complete a listening challenge to unlock a clue to find the treasure. You can also do some engaging read-aloud with the students as well.

If you found value in today’s episode, go to myadventuresinesl.com/store to get the full detailed lesson plan which includes 2 full weeks of lesson plans and activities.

A lesson you can do with the students is to have them turn one of the monthly read-aloud into a video game. This can be done by having the students pick a picture book. Then using story elements and a story
