Lesson Topics for the Second Semester
We are going to start off today’s blog with your reflection question. How is your first semester with your students going this school year? Take a moment to reflect on this question. Think about this question and answer to yourself honestly where you stand.
You might be confused as to what to teach for the second semester. We all have those brain blocks. So let’s jump into some ideas for your 2nd semester. As many of you might have figured out, I love thematic units and novel studies. Some of the ideas I will be sharing will revolve around those two key details.
Let’s start with the month of January and naturally that is the new year. You can teach topics about the Chinese New Year, Martin Luther King, and winter.
February you can focus ideas around Black History Month, the process of making chocolate, and any cultural festivals that might be happening in the month of February.
March is the beginning of spring, and a lot of us are rounding the corner towards the end of the school year. Some topics you can plan around are spring, ecosystems, and spring festivals.
April is jam packed with fun topics you can teach your Language Learners. Some ideas are poetry, plants, flowers, and weather.
Finally we have May! Topic ideas for May can include wind, end of the year activities, spring animals and insects, and special end of the year projects and awards.
My hope is that some of these thematic topics will help you with your planning for the second semester. The goal is to make your planning easier. If you are interested in easy print and go lessons for these topics, visit my Teacher Pay Teacher store My Adventures in ESL.
